Week 8
Furniture Music at the Lucid.Bar
The Event
The final week. Your objects are in place. The sensors are running.
Each pair’s object occupies its place in the Lucid.Bar. Visitors move through the space and become part of the system. Their presence and behavior influence the sensors, which influence the sound, which influences behavior.
No beginning. No end. No conductor.
Setup
Each pair sets up independently:
- Your object in its place at the Lucid.Bar
- Your laptop and a small speaker positioned nearby
- Your Smart Thing and laptop connected to the same network
- Serial USB as fallback if Wi-Fi drops
There is no central system. No coordination. Each object runs on its own.
In Class
- Set up and test your prototype on location
- Furniture Music at the Lucid.Bar (interactive demo)
- Closing discussion
Reflect
- What did your object sound like alone?
- What did it sound like as part of the whole?
- What did you observe — how did people respond?
- What would you change?
- What did the collective system teach you that your individual system could not?
