Field Recording

Field recording is the practice of recording sound in real environments — outdoors, indoors, urban, industrial, natural.

Recordings become raw material: for music, sound design, documentary, acoustic research, and archiving.

A microphone is placed in a space to capture what is there. Close recording reveals texture and detail. Distant recording captures context and space. The microphone hears differently from the ear — it does not filter, or prioritize.

The act of recording is also an act of listening — it trains attention to what is actually there.
